What is the proper way to apply eye shadow?

I've never been a big make up wearer, but I'd really like to get the whole eye shadow thing down. I've always worn eye liner and mascara, but never experimented much with shadow. Any tips on how to apply it without making myself look like a clown? My eyes are dark brown, so I assumed some neutrals would be the way to go. I kinda want it to be subtle and not too flashy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!What is the proper way to apply eye shadow?
Buy eyeshadow that comes with 3 or 4 co-ordinating neutral colours. Use the lightest colour on your brow bone, a medium colour on your lids and a dark colour in the crease. What is the proper way to apply eye shadow?
Umm.. you should first off use light colors, and then you should gently spread it through you're eye. Make your eyes look wide and narrow. Also, you should only apply up until you're lashes reach up to but no more than that specific point limit. Oh, and you should really try and refuse to use dark, deeper colors, but neon are still fun and pretty much okay, depending on what the occasion but never--EVER!--to formal event... EMPHASIZE ON THE NEVER! And oddly enough, don't wear anything too flashy--too tacky and way too cocky. Also, it makes you look exotic, ironic and naiive. So trust me, cut down on the odd, dark colors!
first i think you'll need to find shades that match your face by comparing shades to your lightest and darkest part of your skin(preferably around the eye) or if your in a store in M.A.C. or sephoria tell a makeup artist u need help finding a eye shade just for you. the top eye(below the brow) should be the lightest of your main shade. the second level or the eye lid should be your main color (the shade you picked). and for the crease you can do a smoky light Grey , brow , black or leave it as it is: its the darkest feature of your eye naturally!

*tip* to blend shades try light to dark , vise versa or a neon mix of a shade you should use a brush to blend the shades in a little unevenly (you may not wanna try this on your 1st try so practice)

also you can complete your look in mascara that comes in colorful shade but match them up in color preference such as purple and black or bronze/gold and purple.if you don't like mascara in colors try them in eye liner they work just as well or better depending on the color or brand!
first you want to start off with an eye shadow primer or base. next take a light eye shadow color and out it on the inner third of your eye by your year duct. next take a slightly darker color and out it on the outer two thirds of your eye. after that you should take a darker color on the outer v and blend that into your crease make sure to blend all the colors into your eyes really well. and soften the harsh lines in between the colors.next take the light color and apply that to the inner third of your bottom lashes near the water line then take the darkest and apply it to the rest of your bottom lashes. after that apply some liner to the too and bottom and some mascara and your done. if you can't rally hey a clear picture on how to do this go on you tube and search for eye shadow tutorials. they have some great girls on there. my personal faves are fafinette x3, make up geek, pursebuzz, vietxpinay, and all that glitters. to find them just search for their name in the search box and browse through their videos to find the ones you want. the have some great natural tuts. hope I helped!
I have dark brown eyes and I use this wonderful duo eye shadow from Too Faced the colors I use are Totally Toasted. I also use a Too Faced primer called Shadow Insurance. I put the light shadow below the crease of my eye and the darker brown on the top half of my eye all the way to my eye brow. Then I apply the Roach color liquid liner by Urban Decay on my eye lid. I use a brown pencil liner called Bourbon on my water line (lower portion of the eye)

The best way is to dig the make up brush deep into the vat of eye shadow until it is thoroughly saturated then move right to left along the eyelid, starting at the eyelashes and moving up to the eyebrow. It is also recommended that you use very bright colors and wear at least three different ones at a time.
Well you said your kind of lookinf for neutral for your eyes, well here's a great video on getting neutral eyeshadow, just follow what they say.

Good Luck!
