How do I get eye shadow to stay on?

I wear merle norman makeup . I've tried several different types of eye shadows from merle to covergirl, but none of them seem to stay on long. Is there I can put on before I appy the shadow that will help it stay? How do I get eye shadow to stay on?
try using the color you want and add just a little bit of water to the brush then put it on. it will give it a shiny look but it (for most people) stays on. then once you have that on add a light coat of the same color only dry it may help youHow do I get eye shadow to stay on?
there is this stuff called ';Benefit She Laq'; that i found out about through seventeen magazing(yea i know....a magazine)

anyways i tried it and it actually works.

its $28 from benefitcosmetics.com
try dabbing a bit of foundation, sweep over it with powder, then apply your shadow, and apply a very thin layer of powder on top of the shadow. works for me =)
primer or a light shadow underneath the colors you're using
If you shop at Merle Norman, they have eye primer there. It helps eye shadow stay on.

I use Origins: underwear for lids. It works excellent and keeps my shadow looking exactly like i put it on in the morning!
you could rub a little bit of lotion on and then apply the eye shadow
Wash your face and put on white lotion before you put on makeup.Makeup never stays on with an oily face. Also don't touch or the oil on your finger will cause it to smear
Apply eyeshadow base to your eyelid before applying the eyeshadow. Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion works really well.
Prep the area with powder first or you can buy a cream so eye shadow will stay on longer.
you could wet your lid [or the area your gunna put it on] a little or what i do is when im putting on my base/foundation i put some on my lid. it helps the eye shadow last longer.
*I use an eye shadow primer by Suni Cosmetics. It is available through this website:

*One little squeeze bottle lasts for about one year.

*This primer helps my shadow and eyeliner stay on.
use a non-creasing cream shadow (maybelline dream mousse eyeshadow works great) just make sure you only put a thin layer on, or even the non-creasing stuff will crease
For your eye lid I usually put white eyeliner over the entire lid, not only does it make your eyeshadow stay but it makes it so that it shows up the color that you actually see in the container. Also just using a cream or liquid foundation underneath works pretty good
i have the bst soultion for you....

it's called She-lac and it's put out by benefit cosmetics.... this stuff seals your make up and WONT come off. my make up lasted ALL day at work AND even through a concert right after. I think it runs around 18 dollars for a bottle but it's worth it!
it will kind of depend on your skin. do you think you have oily eyelids? something that can help with this is using non-oily moisturizers and make-up removers, so you aren't adding extra oil to the problem.

another thing that helps is putting a thin layer of a thick foundation on your eyelid. revlon colorstay is really good for this. it's hard to use as a foundation because it is really thick and hard to spread over large areas, but a small dab on each eyelid will make a great base for eyeshadow. (i think mac makes, or at least used to, some kind of eyeshadow base as well, but it basically functions the same).

stick with more matte types of eyeshadow, rather than any sticks, creams, etc. so you won't get creases. i really love mac eyeshadows. i get great, longlasting results. they have lots of good colors--they are known for the crazy bright shades, but they have more neutral ones, too.

(p.s. using their black eyeshadow with a thin eyeliner brush makes a WONDERFUL eyeliner--you can get a nice thin line without making a mess).
Buy a eyeshadow primer or just dab a powder foundation on your eyelids before applying the eyeshadow.
put it on really heavy i guess
Just put concealer on eyelid and pat until it is absorbed, then apply the eye shadow. I actually cover my entire eye area - lid, under eyebrow, side of nose (eye area) and outer area, and under eye with concealer. It helps hide all the little red and purple veins that always show througjh. Also, to make the concealer really work under the eye...use face powder under the eye, then apply concealer. It covers better. Some may fuss about this, but it works and I have had no problems doing it this way. Makeup artists do this.
I have the same problem as you and it's because we don't have a lot of oil glands on our lids. The solution is simple - just put moisturizer on your lids, wait a minute or 2 for it to soak in, and then put your shadow on. This works for me and it stays all day - I use powder shadow because it doesn't tend to crease. Make sure you put moisturizer on your lids only, if you put it on the bottom of your eyes, your eyeliner will smear.
